Spooky New Works

This is a recent comissioned piece I completed. It was really fun to try my take on the classic cemetary scene. I took a very long time with this painting. I had some times when I was just too busy to paint or I had other projects in the works. It took about ayear to paint and repaint. I completed it on 11/1/11, pretty cool :)

This painting sent me on a darker path than usual. I am having fun experimenting with it.. I keep getting new ideas.

I completed this painting before the one above ^
I enjoyed creating Raven's Claws The writing in the background is a Jim Morisson quote. Once I started this I was on a roll :)

I was inspired to start another cemetary scene. It seemed everytime I was painting on the original comission I would see this one.. couldn't get it out of my head.. I wouldn't be happy with the first painting until I started this one. It is still in progress..

It has been too long

Well it has been over a year since my last post. So much has changed. We have moved to a small town named Bay City, TX. It was a hurried move that happened in June of 09. We had a week to move. Which for us is crazy! We are packrats... we see uses out of the most mundane of objects. We are not horders like that reality show... call us collectors lol! Wemiss Houston with a passion! Although I am closer to my family, I think we need the city air.. so I am taking a chance and applying for jobs across the US. Its all about the pursuit of happiness and I have not found it here.. since moving here I have had terrible Artist's Block.. I guess that is what you call it. I thought that being closer to the water would inspire but I haven't been able to go out during the day. This town is very small so the only employment we could find is working nights at a hotel.. so we sleep during the day. So look out world, here we come!!! We are ready to take a chance, we want to wake up in a locale that we love and also find work that we are qualified for... My art degree and Luke's BA is going to waste in this place... So raise your glass and wish us luck!

Rosemary

Hey Everyone!
Hope this finds you doing well on this fine Saturday evening :)
Last night I finished a new piece. As I was finishing I asked Luke what he thought and he said.. "I am getting this Rosemary feeling," the name was perfect! She is part of a series I have started.

Most of my work is contemporary.. I was trying to deviate away from this with a more elegant and timeless approach but .. my style is still there..lol. It started with my reading about Thomas Gainsborough.. I had the priviledge of viewing many of his fine works at The British Museum of Art in the summer of '96. I was revisiting the museum through books and web sites. I was soon caught up in the old masters. Their way of seeing light and the simple but very detailed design. I felt the urge to produce a work of art that captures the the timeless grace of the female figure. All that is feminine and Romantic, catching that sensual and intimate moment.

I apologize for the links.. I can not seem to upload a pic. When the feature works better I will replace the links. Please bare with us, this is our first blog.

They may talk of a comet, or a burning mountain, or some such bagatelle; but to me a modest woman, dressed out in all her finery, is the most tremendous object of the whole creation. ~Oliver Goldsmith

Deep in the Heart

A Big Texas Hello to Everyone!

We want to start out by introducing ourselves. We are Crystal & Luke. We have been creating together since 1997. On 777 we were legally handfasted on Galveston Island. The home where we were wed has been washed away by Hurricane Ike. Many are still struggling since Ike and we would like to extend our love and well wishes.

We reside in Houston, with our two cats, Apache (female, 9yrs, calico) and Bogart (male, 3yrs, tuxedo). They are our furry little babies. We get so much enjoyment from their antics.

Luke was born in Big Spring, TX. He spent his young childhood in San Angelo, TX until the 3rd grade. He then moved to Grapevine, TX near Dallas, where he spent his teens, enjoying the lake and experiencing all the area had to offer. When he was 17 His family moved him back to the San Angelo area. Sterling City, TX is about 45 miles west of San Angelo. The Foster family founded Sterling City in the late 1800's. We go back often, visiting the family ranch. The ranch is full of wild West Texas beauty. Rugged landscape filled with cactus, and mesquite trees. The deer, rabbits and rattle snakes keep it interesting! Although Luke's history revolves around West Texas his heart remains in the city.

Crystal was born in Wharton, TX. She was raised in a small South east Texas Gulf town, Palacios. Palacios has about 5,000pop. A pretty & little town whose main industry is shrimping and fishing. Her parents loved to go on family road trips.. So every summer they would try to make it as far north west as possible. Most trips were bound for Santa Fe & Taos, NM.. from there they would head to Colorado and then to Wyoming. These experiences often play a part in her art.

We have been in Houston together since 1996. We are all about the pursuit of happiness! We love camping, festivals, live music and we are constantly Creating!

Last Night Crystal finished a new piece called "Memory Lane". She is lovely. Memory Lane was created with watercolor paint and prismacolor pencils.

The Smokey Crystal Defined

Smokey Crystals are known for protection and grounding. They aid the reduction of the effects of stress and can transmute fear, anger and other negative emotions into positive energies whilst calming the user. It is also said that they provide clarity of thought, improve intuition and to stimulate higher connection in meditative states. Smokey Crystals are also good for self empowerment.
